# Verona Wine Tours

Prices display in US dollars. All 14 tours carry a from-price read from listing data, running from $34 for the winery-direct Soave vineyard tour up to $632 for the eight-hour private day with pickup in Venice, Padua or Verona. Why most visitors book a guided wine day: Italian road law sets the ordinary blood-alcohol ceiling at 0.5 g/l, with a zero-tolerance rule of 0.0 g/l for anyone under 21, anyone in the first three years of a category B licence, and professional drivers (Codice della Strada, art. 186 and 186-bis). Between 0.5 and 0.8 g/l the penalty is administrative, a fine running from 543 to 2,170 euros plus a licence suspension of three to six months; anything above 0.8 g/l is treated as a criminal matter. Verona's centre adds its own complication, a camera-enforced ZTL with 11 electronic gates that catches out visiting drivers. Cellars in Valpolicella and Soave generally take visitors by reservation, keep roughly Monday-to-Saturday hours, and charge somewhere in the region of 25 to 80 euros a head for a standard tour and tasting. A guided excursion puts the driving, the bookings and the fees in one place; the alternative is a winery-direct visit with a companion who abstains and takes the wheel.

The Valpolicella Classico zone covers five communes, Negrar, Marano di Valpolicella, Fumane, Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella and San Pietro in Cariano, all 14 to 23 km north-west of central Verona and 20 to 26 minutes by car. Soave lies 31 km east, about 28 minutes away; Lazise is 26 km west and Bardolino 38 km west on the Lake Garda shore. The grape rules are strict. Valpolicella DOC, Ripasso DOC, Amarone DOCG and Recioto DOCG require Corvina and/or Corvinone at 45-95% with Rondinella at 5-30%, on a maximum yield of 12 t/ha. For Amarone, no more than 65% of the crop may be set aside to dry, pressing cannot begin before 1 December, minimum aging runs two years from 1 January after the harvest, four for a Riserva, and minimum alcohol is 14%. Soave must be at least 70% Garganega. Bardolino DOC uses Corvina at 35-95% and Rondinella at 5-40%; Lugana DOC is at least 90% Turbiana. Harvest usually falls between mid-September and early October. Vinitaly 2027 runs 11 to 14 April at Veronafiere, and the Arena di Verona opera festival 2027 runs 11 June to 11 September. High-speed trains cover Venice's Santa Lucia station to Verona Porta Nuova in about 1 hour 11 minutes, and Milano Centrale in 1 hour 10 to 16 minutes. Climate: July mean maximum 30.4 C, January mean minimum minus 0.5 C, November the wettest month at 85 mm.
